Helping a Non-Profit not file a claim

One of the things that makes our firm different is a heart and focus for serving non-profits and churches. It comes from our owners both being ordained ministers and knowing how had it is for faith-based groups dealing with claims. It was why these tips and tricks are so important.

Tips and Tricks of the Trade:
- Exterior damage from storms can have a different deductible called a wind/hail deductible which is normally 1, 2 or 5% of the dwelling limit.
- Older roofs can have an ACV (Actual cash value) for the roof. Meaning insurance may only cover up to 25% of the roof value depending on age and not replacement cost.
- Higher deductibles and ACV coverage may mean it may not be worth filing a claim for minor damage.
- Having a trusted professional who can help you make informed decisions can help prevent you from having higher insurance rates or be canceled for filing too many claims.

A local Christian school that serves preK to Kindergarten reached out to us on issues with their EPDM (Rubber) roof. They were seeing multiple water intrusions when it rained and they were not sure if the roof needed to be replaced due to age or if there was storm damage causing the leak. Our inspection revealed some of the patches had come loose, the drip edge was not properly secured and had exposed a lot of the corners. The roof had a lot of debris and standing water. Our team was able to clean the roof, secure the drip edge, seal the edges of the roof, and fix the patches for less than the school’s deductible giving the school some extra time before they would need to replace it.

The Phoenix Difference:
- Saved the client from filing an insurance claim for a minor repair.
- Extended the life of the roof
- Provided estimates for a future roof replacement so the school could add that into their budget.

Sometimes having an expert set of eyes look at the problem and advise on courses of action can make the difference. We know that non-profits and churches have limited funds for repairs and helping them be good stewarts of what God has entrusted them with is part of who we are.
